Access statement for Castleton visitor centre

Introduction

Accessibility both inside and outside the Castleton visitor centre is a must to ensure that all visitors enjoy their experience of a modern visitor centre and Castleton is the perfect example of how it should be done.

We currently offer:

Pre-arrival:

  • Selected information available in large print and audio
  • Fax and email available
  • Some maps can be emailed or posted

Arrival and car parking facilities:

  • Disabled parking (eight spaces) next to visitor centre in the main village car park
  • Coach drop-off point outside visitor centre
  • High Peak Borough Council pay and display car parking adjacent to the visitor centre
  • Nearest accessible toilet is situated in the visitor centre complex
  • Nearest baby changing facilities are situated in the visitor centre complex

Main entrance and reception

  • Visitor centre is signed from the main street
  • Main entrance is through an automatic sliding door 950mm wide with no steps
  • Inside the visitor centre the floor is level and is carpeted ensuring it is non-slip
  • Main counter is split level 910mm with a 750mm sloped section

Public areas - general (internal)

  • The public areas are all on one level
  • The public areas has good circulation space between displays (minimum 960mm)
  • Accommodation booking desk 750mm high
  • Seating available in various locations throughout the information and museum areas
  • Hearing loop on main counter and accommodation desk
  • A selection of leaflets are available in large print and on CD
  • Radar keys on sale at the centre
  • We offer a 10% discount for Gold Card holders (Over 65s and disabled) on our merchandise products

1 April - 31 October: 9.30am - 5.30pm, seven days a week
1 November - 31 March: 10.00am - 5.00pm, seven days a week
Closed Christmas Day
