High Rake, Windmill

Map ref: SK 165778

Limited parking off the road by this old lead rake now owned by the National Park Authority and planted with trees. Good views over Little Hucklow and the rolling limestone landscape towards Bradwell Edge and Win Hill.

There is room for 2 or 3 cars to park on the level, the slope higher up has a gradient of 1:9.

From here it is 20m along the roadside to the start of a wide track surfaced in limestone chatter with some stones larger than 10mm and some potholes. Gradients along this footpath are mostly gentle, 1:19 to 1:40, with a few metres at 1:10. After 200m the farm track leaves the footpath; a barrier reducing the path width to less than 1m and steep slopes (more than 1:6 for 5m) prevent further wheelchair access but the path continues fairly level for the 400m to Castleton Lane.
