See, experience and learn in the Peak District National Park

Boy and treeThe Peak District National Park is a protected area of international conservation importance. To the north, the Dark Peak is known for its wide open moorlands and exposed rocky outcrops whilst in the south, the gentler White Peak is a limestone plateau dissected by steep sided dales.

The Peak District National Park Authority works closely with local businesses, visitors and residents to conserve this beautiful landscape, sustain local economies and encourage public access for informal recreation.

This ‘living landscape’ contains many different types of land use, from tourism and recreation to limestone quarrying, farming, water collection and settlements. This diversity makes it the ideal location for young people to study a wide variety of subjects relevant to today's education.

The National Park Education Service aims to increase young people’s awareness of the natural environment and the role they have to play in its future.

We hope that our study units provide young people with:

  • an opportunity to SAFELY explore the natural environment
  • an exciting and thorough exploration of a range of environmental topics and issues
  • an enjoyable educational experience which is supportive and values the individual
  • a greater awareness and understanding of the Peak District National Park
