Finance Assistant
The
work of the
Finance Assistants is broken down into three areas:
- Income
- Expenditure
- Bank reconciliation
Finance Assistants rotate round each area every 12 months so that the staff have new challenges and learn new skills. We notice that every time we re-visit one of these areas it has always changed quite considerably.
I currently deal with Expenditure and as part of that role I check the purchase invoices we receive. The key things I check for are:
- they have been given the correct budget code
- they have been signed off by an authorised person
- VAT and all other calculations are correct
- the invoice is still within 30 day payment terms and if not why not
When the above checks are complete the invoice details are entered onto the computer finance system. Payments are then authorised and made.
What qualifications and experience do I need?
- 5 GCSEs - Grades A–C (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
- Administration experience and the ability to transfer large volumes of information from varied source documents onto the accounting system accurately and consistently, and to maintain meticulous records.
